Between homeschooling, meal prepping, cleaning, and nurturing m little ones, I often felt like there just weren’t enough hours in a day. But in the midst of this busyness, staying spiritually grounded is what has helped me and will help you too. A faith-based routine helps you align your day with God’s purpose, making even the most mundane tasks feel meaningful.

The most obvious way, is how we treat our children. How we treat them reflect our faith in God. How we speak to them, how react to their behavior, the way we discipline, if we maintain our grace in certain difficult situations, the way we show our love to them…these are all ways we model our faith in front of our children.
Additionally, we can also model our faith in how we communicate with others: our spouse, our friends, our extended-family, church members, neighbors, and even strangers we don’t know.
Try praying aloud, reading your bible in front of your children, playing worship music and prioritizing God-led daily habits. Then watch as your children gradually reciprocate our behavior.
Encourage Scripture memorization through fun activities, like flashcards or songs. Discuss biblical principles during everyday moments, like when correcting behavior or celebrating achievements.
Here are some specific activities that have worked wonderfully in our home:
We created what we call “Bible treasure hunts”, in which we hide verses around the house and giving clues that relate to the meaning of each verse. For example, a verse about God’s protection might be hidden under a blanket, or one about His provision near the pantry. My son absolutely love it, and he’s learning Scripture without even realizing it.
One challenging but rewarding practice has been using discipline moments as opportunities for gospel teaching. For instance, if your child takes a toy without asking, instead of just enforcing rules, talk about how God forgives us and how we can show that same forgiveness to others. Even young children can grasp deep spiritual truths when they’re connected to their daily experiences.
However you choose to incorporate faith in daily habits with your children, just remember to keep it genuine, keep it fun, and don’t be afraid to get creative. Sometimes the most powerful faith lessons come wrapped in ordinary moments and everyday adventures.
I used to view cleaning the house as nothing but a tedious chore. I’d drag myself through the motions of folding laundry and scrubbing dishes, constantly checking the clock and wishing I could be doing something “more important.” But one Sunday morning changed everything for me when our pastor spoke about Colossians 3:23. The biggest challenge was probably overcoming that initial resistance to seeing “mundane” tasks as meaningful. There are still days when I struggle, especially when dealing with the fifteenth spill of the day or a mountain of dishes after hosting Bible study. But I’ve learned to pause, take a deep breath, and remember that every act of service, no matter how small, can be an offering to God.
Transforming your approach to housework won’t happen overnight. Start small. Maybe choose one daily task and intentionally approach it as an act of worship. Play that sermon you’ve been meaning to listen to while you fold laundry. Turn on some worship music during dishes. The hardest part for me in creating an evening routine, was definitely establishing consistency. Life gets busy, and some nights I’d crawl into bed exhausted, tempted to skip my reflection time. But I learned something interesting. Those are actually the nights I need it most. So I started keeping my gratitude journal right on my nightstand, along with my Bible and a special pen. Having everything within arm’s reach removed one more barrier to consistency.
Creating a peaceful environment has made a huge difference too. I dim the lights about 30 minutes before starting my evening routine. Sometimes I’ll even light a lavender or vanilla-scented candle ( even though I’ll admit, I’ve caught myself nearly falling asleep during prayer more than once with that cozy atmosphere). The physical act of slowing down helps signal to my brain that it’s time to transition from doing to being.
Reading Scripture before bed has evolved into more than just checking off a spiritual box. I’ve found that focusing on shorter passages and really sitting with them brings more depth than trying to rush through longer readings. Sometimes I’ll just meditate on a single verse, letting it be the last thought I carry into sleep.
The impact of this evening routine has rippled into other areas of my life too. I’ve noticed I’m more attentive to God’s presence throughout the day, almost like I’m collecting moments to reflect on later. And those nights when anxiety tries to creep in? Having a journal full of documented faithfulness provides powerful ammunition against fear and worry.
For anyone wanting to start their own evening reflection practice, I’d suggest beginning with just 10 minutes. Light a candle, grab a notebook, and write down three specific things you noticed God doing in your day. Let your prayer be simple and honest.

I used to beat myself up over my scattered prayer life. I felt like I was failing at being a “good Christian” because my quiet time looked nothing like those serene Instagram photos of untouched coffee and perfectly highlighted Bible pages.

I was trying to cook breakfast while my toddler was having a meltdown and in desperation, I started praying out loud while multi-tasking. Asking, “Lord, give me patience. Help me show Your love right now.” In that moment everything immediately became more peaceful.

Sometimes it’s washing dishes while listening to worship music. Sometimes it’s turning bath time into a moment to thank God for clean water and tiny toes to count.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that interrupted prayer isn’t failed prayer. When my devotional time gets cut short by a sudden nose bleed or sibling squabble, I remind myself that attending to these needs IS an act of worship. Jesus himself was constantly interrupted in his ministry, and he always responded with grace.
Remember, mama, those interruptions aren’t obstacles to your spiritual life, they’re opportunities to practice God’s presence in real, raw, everyday moments.
